September 2019
GMSCM Class 2019 held its opening ceremony at OWSpace Bookstore in Hangzhou last week. GMSCM admission director Mr. Ma Shuqun, Prof. Shou Yongyi and Ms. Ma Jin from Zhejiang University joined Illustrious McGill alumni Peter Fu and Wilson Wang at the event. In addition, through video stream, GMSCM co-director Prof. Li Shanling from McGill University, along with administration staff Yulia and Ashley, sent their greetings to the new class.
GMSCM is a dual degree program co-founded by two renowned academic institutions: McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, China). The student who completes the GMSCM program is awarded an MBA degree from Zhejiang University and a Master of Management in Manufacturing degree from McGill University. The Program takes place at Zhejiang University in China (with options for a semester of courses in Montreal and a summer trip) and it targets high-potential managers in manufacturing, services and logistics industries as well as entrepreneurs.
Since its launch in 2013, GMSCM has been rapidly gaining recognition globally thanks to its high admission standards and unique curriculum structure. Of the 43 new students in Class 2019, 72% work as executives in join venture or foreign-invested companies. Some classmates were surprised to learn that they were actually in the exact same supply chain, which turned out to be a fine example of the ecosystem studied in GMSCM.
Mr. Ma kicked off the night by extending a warm welcome to Class 2019, encouraging the newly enrolled to step out of their comfort zone and broaden their view from a global perspective. Prof. Shou believed that everyone in this GMSCM family would have something to learn from each other.
The night culminated at the remarks from Mr. Peter Fu and Mr. Wilson Wang. As an esteemed alumnus, Peter Fu pledged a donation of 12 million dollars to McGill last year; the famed designer shared his tips of studying in McGill and invited all participants of the night to visit McGill Club in Shanghai. Wilson, also an alumnus, also shared his experience of studying with McGill and career development after graduation.
As representatives of the previous classes, Mr. Li Bin, Mr. Ji Peiwei, Ms. Liu Xiaofei and Mr. Luo Xiping discussed with Class 2019 about the challenges and rewards they ran into in the course of the 2.5-year study. The topics covered a whole range of issues from essay writing to the splendid city life in Montreal.
