What motivated you and your co-founders to start Precare?
My main motivation for creating Precare stemmed from my passion for improving patient education and engagement. Did you know that the number one cause of medical errors is communication problems. During our journey in healthcare, we recognized that many errors were due to poor decision-making stemming from communication problems rather than a lack of knowledge and that patients needed to be more informed to participate in the decision-making process of their care. The most common challenges patients face are communication errors and barriers that lead to a poor understanding of their conditions, treatment options, and how to manage their health effectively moving forward. Precare bridges this gap by providing a platform that delivers patients easy access to reliable, understandable, and actionable health resources. Precare bridges the gap between healthcare providers, professionals, and their patients through a seamless communication platform with built-in evidence-based healthcare guides and resources.
What are some challenges you are facing while scaling your start-up?
When we first began onboarding our clients (healthcare organizations, hospitals, etc.), we did not expect to have the quantity of patients enrolled on our platform from day one. We saw incredible engagement, but our technology initially was slower than expected. As soon as we realized the demand for our platform, we had to improve our technology in order to process and handle thousands of patients and healthcare providers securely. Today, we have a full in-house engineering and technology team that ensures that all our platforms are working at full capacity while ensuring full compliance with all local and federal laws and regulations.
How did the Dobson Centre play a role in Precare as we know it today?
The Dobson Centre played a critical role in the growth of Precare and allowed us to fully focus on the innovation and development of our platform and digital medical and healthcare guides. The mentorship we obtained played a huge role in securing our first client in 2019. We were also able to pilot and get initial feedback on the dozens of versions of our platform through the Dobson Centre.
Through Dobson Centre’s support, we were able to support the Ministry of Health of Quebec and the Canadian government as well as leading hospitals in the USA like MD Anderson, Houston Methodist, and Nebraska Medicine.
Who would be an ideal partner or collaborator for Precare?
Our ideal partner would be a large healthcare network so that we are able to have a significant impact on patients who need our platform the most. Our platform and resources are available in 20+ languages and can be fully understood at a Grade 6 comprehension level. By implementing Precare, we can significantly support and help patients during one of their most vulnerable times.
What are you most excited about for ViVe in Los Angeles?
We are incredibly excited about the opportunity to showcase Precare's innovative solutions to a broader audience at ViVe in Los Angeles. We have already begun a partnership with Cedars Sinai and UCLA. ViVe will provide us a platform to connect with more healthcare professionals and potential partners who share our passion and vision for improving patient education and engagement. We are particularly excited about the possibility of expanding our reach and impact. ViVe's focus on innovation and collaboration aligns perfectly with Precare's mission, and we believe that this event will open up new doors for us to grow and evolve as a company.
We are also looking forward to learning from other industry leaders and experts attending ViVe. The event promises to be a hub of creativity and innovation, and we can't wait to see what new ideas and insights we can bring back to Precare.
