W. Y. Alice Chan: Bill 21 May Embolden Religious Bullying

W. Y. Alice Chan, PhD (DISE) publishes an article about how Bill 21 will impact religious bullying in school settings. Through her research, Chan has examined how learning about religious diversity can contribute to preventing hate and bullying in schools, and that banning religious symbols in the public sector is ill-advised.

Global news coverage of Reconciliation highlights how local teacher, and Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) MA graduate Jennifer Hayden-Benn and her students, explore the theme of “Reconciliation” through drama and theatre, as a part of DISE’s Dr. Mindy R. DISE's Christopher Dietzel Gets Mitacs Globalink Research Award

Christopher Dietzel, a PhD student in DISE and research assistant on the IMPACTS Project, has received a Mitacs Globalink Research Award. Chris will travel to Australia and work with Dr. Kath Albury, a professor at Swinburne University of Technology, to research violations of safety and consent that trans and gender non-binary people experience while using dating apps. For his doctorate, Chris is studying sexual violence in LGBTQ+ communities and sexual consent related to dating app use.

McGill Education Graduation in Pikogan Covered by CBC News

Nearly 60 Cree students their graduation from McGill University's Faculty of Education this past Saturday in Pikogan, Quebec. Our Office of First Nations and Inuit Education offers full-time and part-time teacher certification programs in Cree and Inuit communities in Quebec as well as in Kahnawake and Listuguj. Even though these students may be far away off campus, they are an important part of our Faculty and the McGill community. CBC's Susan Bell covered the story.

On May 24, 2019, Annie Savard was awarded by the title Professor Honoris Causa from UNIVERSITATEA OVIDIUS DIN CONSTANTA, in Romania. Annie Savard is associate professor at the Faculty of Education at McGill University.

Art/Science Workshops at the Redpath Museum

A joint initiative of the McGill Art Hive Artist-in-Residence Lou Sheppard, the P. Lantz fund for Excellence in Arts and Education, and the Redpath Museum at McGill, the workshops were meant to fill a gap in museum programming for pre-teen youth, and to provide opportunities to explore intersections between art and science for education students.

Peel Street Construction Project

Between April and July (approximately), the City of Montreal will complete phase two of the Peel reconstruction project. Construction will take place between 7am and 7pm Monday to Saturday. Please note this project is managed by the City of Montreal, the Faculty will keep you informed as we receive updates.

Dean Dilson Rassier addresses the United Nations
