NOTE: Campus buildings and offices are closed on all Canadian statutory holidays and during the annual scholastic Winter Break, typically between Christmas and New Year's Day; dates may vary from year to year. Additionally, during the summer the University offers Summer Fridays for its employees. As such, you may find some Faculty of Education offices closed or on a skeleton staff on Fridays in July and August, so it is a good practice to make the appropriate arrangements instead of relying on drop-in.

Education Parking Garage

The Education Building indoor parking garage (entrance on McTavish) is for permit holders and day-pass holders only. Please contact parking.services [at] mcgill.ca for inquiries about parking privileges. There are four electric vehicle charging stations in the Education Garage. Garage hours are identical to the Education Building’s operating hours, including holiday closures and reduced hours on Summer Fridays. Parking Services may ticket and tow any vehicles left in the garage during off-hours. For additional on-campus parking information, please consult the McGill Parking Services website, which also includes information for those cycling to campus. For information about adapted transport services, please consult the McGill Transport website.

Campus Events

Events held in the Education Building must be approved by the buildingdirector.education [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Event%20Inquiry) (Education Building Director). Additional costs may be incurred to cover the costs of a security agent and custodian on-site, where applicable. Requests need to be submitted at least two weeks in advance. (Please expect delays when Summer Fridays or holiday closures are in effect.)

Silent Hours

"Silent Hours" refers to times that go beyond a building's operating hours during which buildings are only accessible for those with authorized card access. For events that take place outside regular building hours, Silent Hour Procedure is required: A Building Services custodian staff member and a security agent must be brought in to open buildings and act as an attendant. Standard charges will apply, to be covered by the event organizer. They must be on-site for the entire duration of the event as well as 15 minutes prior and 15 minutes after the event.

Research and academic activities involving non-McGillian guests in the Education Building or Duggan House are permitted, provided that:

  • Guests are escorted in and out of the building and never be left unattended.
  • A record of silent-hours visitors is kept by the event organizer and may be requested at any time by Security Services for verification.
  • Large events must be arranged with and formally approved by the buildingdirector.education [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Event%20Inquiry) (Education Building Director) ( for the Education Building) or through admin.kpe [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Event%20Inquiry) (KPE's Administrative Manager) (for the KPE Sector of Currie Gymnasium).

This guest policy applies to silent hour visits, meetings, research, workshops, McGill Psychoeducational and Counselling Clinic appointments, and to anyone who has building card access for work purposes.
