The Faculty of Education’s Office for the Faculty of Education Research: Initiatives, Networking, and Grants (OFFERING) provides application review and support for the highly competitive Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships.
The Banting Fellowships aim to build world-class research capacity by recruiting top-tier Canadian and international postdoctoral researchers at an internationally competitive level of funding. The fellowships are valued at $70,000/year for two years and just 70 new fellowships are awarded annually.

Supervisors and promising postdoctoral applicants should discuss this opportunity and prepare a pre-application for submission and review to the Office of the Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Studies.

Pre-Application Procedures
Eligibility Criteria
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens
- Must fulfill or have fulfilled all degree requirements for a PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree:
- between September 15, 2021 and September 30, 2025 (inclusively), and
- before the start date of their award.
- Applicants who have not fulfilled all requirements for their degree at the time of application must submit proof no later than October 15, 2025.
- Has never held a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.
- Does not hold a tenure-track or tenured faculty position, nor can they be on leave from such a position.

Submission Documents
Applicants submit their pre-applications to offering.education [at] mcgill.ca (OFFERING) for review and screening. Please compile into one PDF file with the formatting specified as follows:
- Filename format: Lastname_Firstname_Banting_2024.pdf
- Filled application form
- Applicant's standard CV (not CCV)
- Supervisor's Letter of Support (maximum 1 page). Point form is acceptable. See the Banting website for the criteria
- Abstract outlining their proposed postdoctoral research program (500-word maximum)

Next Steps for Selected Applicants
If your application is selected by Education’s Office of the Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Studies for recommendation to McGill Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, you will be contacted and will then need to prepare and submit a full application for review. Following the submission of completed applications to GPS in September, McGill Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies will review and provide a letter of endorsement to successful nominees. Selected applicants will then submit their applications and referees will upload their assessments via ResearchNet by the submission deadline: 17 September 17, 2024 at 8:00 PM EDT.
