Graduate Studies

Student's considering graduate studies in the Department of English should consult the graduate studies page for up-to-date information on the program and application requirements.

Student's applying for graduate study during the final year of their undergraduate degree are eligible to apply for graduate scholarships.

Applications for Quebec (Fonds quebecois de la recherche sur la societe et culture) M.A. and Ph.D. Fellowships and Canada (SSHRCC) Doctoral Fellowships arrive in the Department around the end of September.

Fellowship applications and forms for ordering McGill transcripts are collected from and returned to the Graduate Coordinator's office, Arts 155 B.

Full fellowship information is posted on the bulletin board outside the Graduate Coordinator's office as soon as it becomes available. An early October deadline is usually established by the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office Fonds quebecois de la recherche sur la societe et culture for:

  • The ordering of official McGill transcripts and the receipt of official external transcripts.
  • The submission of completed applications and letters of reference.

The deadline for applications for McGill Major Fellowships coincides approximately with the SSHRCC and deadlines. It is the student's responsibility to make note of and to complete applications in time for the appropriate deadlines. Note that Canadian students attending McGill must have applied for an external fellowship before applying for a McGill Major Fellowship.

If you apply for a graduate fellowship, you must also apply to a graduate program.
