In the spring of 2024, McGill signed an agreement with the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) to co-sponsor Bangladesh students enrolled in a PhD program at McGill University.
Value & Duration
UGC-McGill Fellows will benefit from the following funding:
- A stipend for living expenses (15,000 CAD annually)
- Health and living insurance plan (approx. 1,100 CAD)
- Annual support from salary (approx. 9,800 CAD)
- Cost of return airfare (approx. 3,000 CAD)
McGill in turn, will cover the full cost of tuition (including ancillary fees), as set each year by the Quebec Ministry of Higher Education (approx. 20,214 CAD annually), exclusive of health insurance.
Funding is provided for up to four (4) years for PhD students.
Eligibility
- Must be a citizen of Bangladesh
- Must be selected by the UGC as a recipient
- Must apply and receive an Offer of Admission from McGill for a PhD
- The program must align with the priority fields established by the UGC.

Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Drug Discovery, Molecular Pathology and Diagnostics, Biobanking, Computational Biology, Population and Global Public Health, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing and Big-Data Analytics, General STEM fields, Medicine, Information and Communications Technology, Architecture, Food Science, Business, Arts and Social Sciences, and Education.
