Let's Talk Science
Let's Talk Science is an award-winning national charitable organization providing free "hands-on, minds-on" opportunities to engage youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Undergraduate and graduate students from all faculties are welcome to join the McGill Chapter of Let's Talk Science to help with virtual and in-person activities throughout the year, including:
- Classroom presentations
- Public STEM events
- Mentoring and evaluation for regional science fair projects
- STEM outreach to urban and Indigenous schools
No outreach experience is required: all volunteers attend an introductory training session on how to create and deliver impactful, engaging hands-on STEM activities. Further optional training and professional development is offered periodically.
Morgan Arboretum
Part of McGill University's Macdonald Campus, the Morgan Arboretum is a 245-hectare forest reserve that supports teaching and research and is open to the public for recreation year-round.
Student volunteers can help with:
- Nature and wildlife education for visitors and school groups
- Trail maintenance
- Invasive species management
- Natural collection curation
- Seed collection
- Firewood collection/splitting
Get outdoors, help a local non-profit, and develop unique environmental experience! All training is provided. Volunteers with different experiences, backgrounds, and interests are welcome.
McGill University Herbarium
The McGill University Herbarium is the oldest research museum of dried plant specimens in Canada. The ongoing work of McGill staff and students to catalogue natural history at the herbarium is essential to understanding past and present patterns of plant biodiversity.
The herbarium offers opportunities for student volunteers to work with the collection in-person on Thursdays and Fridays during the school year.
