MetSoc McGill Chapter wins the 2019 Outstanding MetSoc-CIM Student chapter award!

MetSoc McGill Chapter was honored to send Konstantinos Korgiopoulos (President 2018-2019) to COM 2019 conference at Vancouver to receive the 2019 Outstanding MetSoc Student Chapter Award from Professor Mansoor Barati (University of Toronto)! This award recognizes the efforts of the team members who devoted their free time to serve our community.

Congratulations to Dr. William Lepry for receiving the Governor General’s Gold Medal for his Ph.D. thesis! His thesis entitled “Sol-Gel-Derived Bioactive Borate Glasses for Mineralized Tissue Repair” was supervised by Professor Showan Nazhat.

Professor Emeritus John J. Jonas - Recipient of prestigious Acta Materialia Gold Medal

On February 28th, 2017, Professor Emeritus John J. Jonas was the recipient of the prestigious Acta Materialia Gold Medal.  Along with a solid, 24 karat, gold medal, Prof. Jonas received a $10,000 USD cash prize. This award recognizes his seminal contributions to understanding phase transformations and dynamic re-crystallization in steel when it is red hot and flying through a rolling mill at 100 km/hr.

Materials Engineering Alumnus 2011 - Alexandra Plante

Alexandra Plante ’11 studied Materials Engineering at McGill. She participated in the Materials Engineering co-op program during university and accumulated a wide range of work experiences prior to graduation at companies including BlackBerry and Pratt & Whitney.

2017 Acta Materialia Gold Medal Award - Emeritus Prof. John J. Jonas

Congratulations to Prof. Jonas on receiving this award in recognition of research contributions and leadership in materials science.   The presentation of this award will take place during the TMS Spring Meeting to be held in San Diego from 26th February – 2nd March 2017.

Professor Philip Andrew Distin

It is with great sadness that I report that Professor Philip Distin passed away on January 12, 2016, at his home.

REGAL Students Day 2015
