About the Max Bell School

MPPs sitting in the booth talking to each other at the Max Bell School of Public PolicyThe Max Bell School of Public Policy at McGill University is a teaching and research community that drives policy transformation by sharing rigorous and independent analysis of society’s toughest challenges, creating dynamic learning opportunities, and convening conversations that matter.

Teaching, applied. Our interactive teaching, based in real-world challenges, connects current and future policymakers with the ideas, practical skills, and networks to navigate change and make a difference.

Research, engaged. We engage directly with policymakers to design evidence-based, multidisciplinary and cutting-edge research that responds to their most pressing needs – from the local to the global.

Solutions, created. We bring experts and policymakers together across sectors to share knowledge and co-develop solutions.

The Max Bell School was launched in 2017 through a generous gift from the Max Bell Foundation, with the aim of developing future policy leaders and serving as a forum for mobilizing ideas around critical issues of public policy. Our flagship Master of Public Policy program was designed to balance academic rigor and practical training through the active involvement of policy practitioners and experiential learning. Since our first intake of MPP students in 2019, the School has expanded its reach, refined its curriculum, and built a strong reputation as a leader in public policy education and a key contributor to improving Canada’s policy-making ecosystem.
