Published: 3 October 2023

October 3rd, 2023 | The Max Bell School of Public Policy was honoured to receive Christiane Fox, Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. During this session planned by Visiting Scholar Olivia Smith, the Deputy Minister spoke to the fifth cohort of MPP students and gave an overview of the immigration policy process in Canada. She highlighted pressure points and stressors for applicants as well as conflicts in policy between provincial and federal governments. The Deputy Minister discussed her role in cabinet, exploring the many connections between public policy and immigration.

The session represented an opportunity to engage with one of Canada’s leaders in shaping and managing immigration policies and processes. As the current Max Bell cohort is roughly 50% international students, this was an excellent opportunity to gain insights into policy development at the international stage.
