Establishment of New Core Facilities

Investigators interested in establishing a new Core Facility within the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences (FMHS) must adhere to the University’s Policy on Research Entities. The related Procedures for Core Facilities include requirements for governance and the application filing form for new core facilities, including a comprehensive Business Plan, which must undergo review by the FMHS Committee for the Oversight of Shared Research Resource Facilities (COSRRF) and receive approval from the Dean of FMHS.

Provisional status granted by FMHS is the first step, after which, if the new research unit's activities are positively assessed by COSRRF, it may be encouraged to apply for full status as a McGill Research Unit through the Office of the Vice-Principal Research and Innovation (VPRI).

Proposals need to be formatted using the Business Plan template (Core Facilities) and the Appendix template for Business Plan (Core Facilities). Please send the application documents to the Faculty's Research Office at riac.med [at] mcgill.ca.

COSRRF will assess the new unit's fit to the Faculty's current portfolio of core facilities and its alignment with the Faculty’s Strategic Research Plan

Please contact riac.med [at] mcgill.ca with any questions.
