Rwanda gorilla expert Bill Weber to speak at McGill

Bill Weber, director of North American programs of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), will be presenting "From Gorillas to Grizzlies — Global Perspectives on Wildlife Conservation" at the Redpath Museum.

Dr. Weber, who worked with the late Dian Fossey in Rwanda, arrived in Africa in 1973 and lived there for 11 years. He is co-founder of the highly successful Mountain Gorilla Project in Rwanda and a pioneer of the modern ecotourism movement.

His book In the Kingdom of Gorillas, co-authored with his wife, Amy Vedder, was dubbed "one of the most influential books from the past 40 years of wildlife publishing" by BBC Wildlife. In his current work with WCS, he oversees more than 30 projects across Canada and the United States.

Dr. Weber, who is currently helping design a parks recovery program in Rwanda, will also address the impact of the country's 1994 genocide on conservation and wildlife.
