Undergraduate Students

Our team of talented undergraduate students gets the chance to take their learning experiences from the classroom to the field. Some of their day to day tasks include contacting patients, managing data sets and managing media. All our undergraduates also get some hands-on training by personally evaluating body composition and metabolism in our bariatric surgery studies. They are constantly mentored by the graduate level students who actively participate in the learning experience and share expertise. If you would be interested in joining the team as a volunteer, practicum participant or as a summer intern please see the undergraduate level research opportunities.

About me: I am a U2 Physiology student minoring in Pharmacology at McGill University. I have been involved with the bariatric follow-ups since its beginning in May, 2011 and coordinate the 2300-patient project. I presented research pertaining to the follow-up cohort at the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery in June 2012 and also at McGill University's Undergraduate Research Day in October 2012.I have enjoyed the opportunity to get my feet wet in the medical field, and experience both the surgeon's and the patient's points of view. I am so grateful for the opportunity to get involved in research as an undergraduate student.

About me: I am an undergraduate student in Anatomy and Cell Biology minoring in Operations Management. I got involved with the Health and fitness promotion lab in May 2012. From my experience in the lab I've had the opportunity to get a first hand look into how research in the health sciences is conducted. I also got the chance get my hands dirty by presenting research at the undergraduate research day, helping build the website and helping to design the lab logo. I have truly loved my experience and working with a group of people who care about creating awesome opportunities for anyone to learn.

About me: Hi Everyone! I am an undergrad in Kinesiology in my final year here at McGill University. I have been involved in the Health and Fitness Promotion Lab for almost a year now and the amount I have learned is unbelievable. I truly think that the research we are doing here is going to impact how bariatric patients are treated, both pre- and post-operation. I have a passion for healthy living, and I try to incorporate this into my everyday life. Whether that be taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or packing a lunch instead of eating out, I believe these little things can make all the difference!

Name: Vanessa Brunetti

About me: I am a U3 undergraduate student in Kinesiology. I'm currently undergoing a practicum in this lab as part of the Honours Program. I would like to pursue my education next year in the Public Health Master’s program at McGill University. I also work as a personal trainer in a fitness center, where I develop fitness programs for clients who want to lose weight, gain muscle mass or increase their performance in a particular sport. I’m concerned with the lifestyle habits of our society and their effects on health and fitness, and would like to learn more about ways to prevent negative habits in target populations. I learn a great deal from this lab and find it really motivating to work with people that come from different backgrounds. Working in this lab is surely a great experience for anyone who wants to learn more about research.
