Les chaires de recherche du Canada de niveau 2 sont octroyées à de jeunes chercheurs(-euses) d’exception, qui, selon leurs pairs, sont susceptibles de devenir des sommités dans leur domaine. D’une durée de cinq ans, les chaires ne sont renouvelables qu’une seule fois. Pour chacune d’elles, l’établissement reçoit 100 000 $ par année pendant cinq ans.
Les candidat(e)s à une chaire de niveau 2 doivent être des chercheurs(-euses) émergent(e)s. Ces personnes doivent, au minimum, occuper un poste de professeur adjoint ou de professeur agrégé, ou posséder les qualifications nécessaires pour être nommées à ces niveaux.
