Minimum funding as of September 2024

As of January 2016, newly admitted graduate students in Psychiatry must guarantee annual stipends from sources other than personal or family finances. These stipends are intended for student living expenses and tuitions and fees. Stipends come from the thesis supervisor, from external fellowships and from awards provided by the department. Personal or family financing of graduate careers is NOT permitted.  However, please note this policy does NOT apply to residents who are applying to our MSc program.

* Tuition amounts for 2024/25 are confirmed. Ancillary fees for 2024/25 are approximate. Tuition is subject to annual increases of 3-4%. The tuition support in any given year will correspond to the actual tuition amount charged in that year.

** Stipend amounts are determined by the FMHS Graduate Student Funding Policy.

Any studentship amounts obtained by the student can be deducted from the supervisor’s contribution.

 

Top up policy as of January 2024

For awards < minimum stipend amount

Students receive FMSH minimum stipend amount + 10% of the value of the scholarship.

 

For awards ≥ minimum stipend and <$35,000

Students receive their full award + tuition (minus differential fee waiver paid by Department)/ancillary fees/insurance + 10% the value of the award.

 

For awards ≥$35,000 and <$50,000

Students receive their full award + tuition (minus differential fee waiver paid by Department)/ancillary fees/insurance. Additional top-up at the discretion of their supervisor

 

For awards ≥$50,000

Students receive their full award + differential tuition fees if international student (note that these are usually covered by GPS).

 

**This top up policy applies to all students as of January 2024. As of September 2024, new incoming students will no longer be receiving differential fee waivers paid for by the Department but may be eligible for a Faculty differential fee waiver (2 students may be nominated per year, no application required). Students who were admitted to the program prior to September 2024 will continue to receive differential fee waivers from the Department.
