Resources for teaching and learning science

Science education research suggests that the most effective instruction is based on initial consideration of students’ prior conceptions, instructional goals, and careful alignment of pedagogical practice with those goals. Effectiveness of these instructional approaches can be determined through the use of conceptual assessment tools that are aligned to the instructional goals (Libarkin et al., In press). In this site, we share:

  • Evidence-based teaching strategies to promote student engagement and conceptual understanding in science
  • Sample assessment items that were developed by our project team
  • Sample lesson plans using this assessment tool that were developed by our project team and teachers
  • Useful links and articles
