The concept map of the occupational therapy curriculum utilizes the metaphor of a living lotus – a symbol of human aspiration that grows, adapts to, and illuminates its environment. The lotus is steadied and nourished by the leaves of Reflexivity and Professional Reasoning. These processes, core to the development of occupational therapy practice, are replenished by transformational educational strategies.
Through the lens of Social Constructivism, activity and occupation-based conceptual models and frameworks of health and occupation are visualized, interpreted and applied in a reflexive and situation- specific manner. This facilitates the integration of a client-centered philosophy with respect for cultural diversity in understanding a client’s participation, choices, responsibilities and collaboration.
The petals of the lotus interpret the seven roles of the Profile of Occupational Therapy, guided by our values of Occupational Justice, Health Promotion, Diversity, and Scholarship of Practice. Beneath the resting lotus, ripples move outwards, affecting wider Canadian and global practices and philosophies of occupational therapy, moving on currents of change.

La métaphore du lotus vivant utilisée dans la carte conceptuelle du programme d’ergothérapie représente l’aspiration humaine à grandir, s’adapter et influencer son environnement. Les feuilles de la réflexivité et du raisonnement professionnel nourrissent et stabilisent le lotus. Ces processus fondamentaux au développement de la pratique ergothérapique sont constamment régénérés par des stratégies pédagogiques transformatrices.
Sous l’angle du constructivisme social, les modèles conceptuels basés sur l’activité et l’occupation, ainsi que les schèmes de référence propres à la santé et à l’occupation, sont approchés, interprétés et appliqués de façon réflexive et spécifique à chaque situation. Cette approche facilite l’intégration d’une philosophie centrée sur le client et sensible à la diversité au regard de la participation, des choix, des responsabilités et de la collaboration de chaque client.
Les pétales du lotus représentent les sept rôles du Profil de la pratique de l’ergothérapie, qui favorisent la mise en œuvre de nos valeurs de justice occupationnelle, de promotion de la santé, de diversité et d’érudition. Sous le lotus, au-dessus des courants de changements actuels, des ondes se propagent, affectant les pratiques ergothérapiques au Canada et ailleurs dans le monde.
