Useful resources on the AFE

Two great resources for answers to questions you may have:

AFE's Student Financial Assistance brochure on the full-time loans and bursaries program. It includes a useful glossary of terms

Guarantee certificate

The guarantee certificate is a contract between you, AFE and your financial institution. It allows for your aid to be deposited into your bank account.

When you first apply to AFE, you will need to collect your guarantee certificate and take it to a participating financial institution.

Full-time students

First-time applicants to AFE’s Loans and Bursaries Program for full-time studies will be notified by AFE when their guarantee certificate is available in their online file. The guarantee certificate will be made available after AFE receives McGill’s confirmation of the student’s enrolment. The first confirmation of enrolment for the academic year takes place in mid-August. You will need to print your guarantee certificate and take it to a branch of one of the participating financial institutions.

Find out more about guarantee certificates for full-time students, including the list of participating financial institutions, on this page of the AFE website.

Part-time students

Guarantee certificates for students who apply to AFE’s Loans program for part-time studies will be mailed by AFE directly to the student’s mailing address. The student must then take the guarantee certificate to a branch of one of the participating financial institutions.
