Onboarding and Mentorship

New Faculty

It takes a village!

The Department of Surgery is a welcoming environment the enables new recruits to quickly overcome challenges of familiarizing oneself with a new department.  To this end we create a mentorship committee for every new recruit, composed of at least 4 department members: the division director, at least one faculty member within the division, and at least one external member.

The onboarding committee meets with the new recruit at least twice a year, for 3-5 years.  In addition to providing support and mentorship, the committee also helps the new recruit establish relationship within the division, and throughout the department, faculty, and hospitals.
