We are excited to announce the 2024 Biodiversity Photo Contest, a celebration of the beauty and diversity of all forms of life surrounding us. The contest is open to all members of the McGill community (students, staff, and faculty).
This year’s main theme is Biodiversity at McGill! Send us your best photos taken on our campuses, field stations, or during McGill-related activities.
Here are the contest categories:
- McGill fauna: From babies to adults, large to small, share your best animal photos!
- McGill flora, fungi, and microorganisms: From micro to macro, local or exotic, show off your photos of mushrooms and fungus, plants, or microorganisms!
- McGill landscapes: This category can include anything from natural or urban settings, from the ground to the sky, or beautiful sceneries and exceptional backgrounds!
- Non-McGill: Open category for photos not taken at McGill or as part of McGill-related activities.
Please email your photo submissions to sustainability [at] mcgill.ca before September 12th at 11:59pm. Participants can submit up to four photos (one per category). Please make sure to review the submission guidelines listed below.
Voting will take place from September 16th to September 27th during the 2024 Biodiversity Festival and winners will be announced on October 1st.
Prizes will be awarded to each category’s winners and runners-up!
1st place winners will receive an Espace pour la Vie Passport for the year. Runners-up will receive a pair of day passes to the Gault Nature Reserve.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Please email your photo submissions to sustainability [at] mcgill.ca with the subject: "2024 BIODIVERSITY PHOTO CONTEST".
Please include the following information for each photo in your email (copy and paste the list and fill it out in the body of the email):
- Full name:
- Category of the photo (McGill fauna, McGill flora, McGill landscape, Non-McGill photo):
- Photo Title:
- Location:
- Date:
- Description (1 sentence):
Reuse Permission When you submit your photographs to the McGill Office of Sustainability, it is understood that you grant permission for their reuse. These photos may be featured across various platforms including the official website, newsletters, and other forms of media, always ensuring that proper credit is given to the photographer.
