Fix the system is a slow fashion show where we invite guests to reconsider how they consume, why they consume, and highlight the systemic issues in fast fashion consumption. Through this event, we aim to showcase different parts of the supply chain through imagery and art, provided by McGill clubs Dsign Lab and the Plumber’s Foundation. Furthermore, we hope to bring smaller brands into the spotlight by giving them a chance to show their work to McGill students.

The SPF funding will help us bring about this show while being able to fairly compensate artists for their labor. If we can have a live event, we aim to have a clothing drive to support local shelters and a clothing swap to promote a circular economy. The event will be held at McGill.

Our project is a pre-recorded fashion show and, if possible, a live screening with a clothing swap and drive. The remaining clothes will be donated to Chez Doris, a women’s shelter in Montreal.

Due to COVID-19, we will be producing the fashion show in video form (with creative and film aid by the Plumber’s Foundation) in case it can’t be in person. We will be hosting a viewing party on McGill campus for students and faculty to join us in creating a conversation on the aforementioned impacts of fast fashion. The viewing party will be livestreamed and the fashion show video will be posted on social media in order for McGill members not able to physically be at the event to be part of the conversation.

Lastly, at this event we hope to announce a citizen science report headed by McGill students, detailing the harms of a linear waste system on a local green space. This report is directly related to the theme of this event as we hope to make more people cognisant of our supply chains.
