Assessment in the age of generative AI

Assessment signals what is important for students to learn and provides them with feedback on their progress. While the emergence of generative (gen) AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we assess student learning—by creating personalized assessment tasks tailored to individual student learning outcomes and supporting diversity and inclusion, it also raises concerns about surface learning, authenticity, integrity, and bias. In the age of gen AI, we will look at a framework for designing assessment tasks that support students with developing the skills they need for lifelong learning.
