Visible Storage Gallery in the McLennan Library

Located on the fourth floor of the McLennan Library Building, the Visible Storage Gallery includes dozens of artworks from McGill University’s Visual Arts Collection. The works are hung salon-style in an eye-catching display on a vibrant indigo coloured wall just outside the Rare Books & Archives Reading Room. Inspired by the growing trend of “Visible Storage” spaces across museums worldwide, the gallery makes available highlights from the collection that would otherwise be in storage or on view in less accessible spaces. These highlights include works from Group of Seven members Arthur Lismer and Edwin Holgate, as well as a mesmerizing work by Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau. Made possible by the McGill Library Innovation Fund, with additional support from the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU), this Gallery brings together works that represent a cross-section of holdings in Canadian, Indigenous, and international art, both historical and contemporary. If you would like a guided visit of the Visible Storage Gallery, be sure to attend our Weekly Tour.
