We often only take time to care for our well-being when we're not feeling our best, but we should really be working to maintain it all year.
Well-being is fundamental to success in all areas of life and, like Rome or a good essay, it can't be built in a day (or in a panicked night).
That's where the Healthy Living Annex (HLA) comes in. It's a space on the third floor of the Brown Building dedicated to outreach, health promotion and peer support activities.
What's Health Promotion?
The World Health Organization defines health promotion as "the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health." As the health promotion arm of the Student Wellness Hub, the HLA is here to help you, no matter where you are on your wellness journey.
That will mean giving students the tools you need to take charge of your health and wellness long before you get to a point where professional intervention is necessary.
Some of those tools will come from:
- Healthy McGill's Peer Health Ambassadors and Educators, so you can get support and health information from a peer
- Tutorial Service and Family Care will also be part of the Healthy Living Annex, so you can get help if you're struggling with a class or resources if you're caring for a family member
- The Shag Shop will also be housed there, so you can come pick up any orders from McGill's online sexual health boutique.
