International Appalachian Trail History (Maine, USA)

The International Appalachian Trail (IAT) was launched on Earth Day, April 22, 1994, to connect the three highest peaks in Maine, New Brunswick and southern Quebec with a footpath. The Maine Chapter of the IAT has taken the lead to extend the trail and to incorporate geologic heritage as an organizing principle. The IAT History Intern will work with Maine IAT leaders and staff and professional curators at the Maine Historical Society to create an archive for the trail and develop a plan for a regular and timely blog (using web and other social media resources) to tell the story of the trail.
