The 2023 Academic Salary Policy supports the continuation of the Professional Development Fund (PDF) for eligible academic staff, facilitating reimbursement of expenses related to professional development.
We have observed an increase in Professional Development Fund claims at the Faculty finance office. The PDF allocates $750 annually to eligible academic staff members for expenses contributing to professional development. Examples of eligible expenses include:
- Memberships in scholarly societies, professional orders, or associations;
- Registrations for scholarly meetings, conferences, and seminars, including travel and accommodation expenses;
- Subscriptions to scholarly journals and purchases of scholarly books;
- Computer hardware and software supporting professional development or academic duties.
Please note the following additional guidelines:
- Computers or tablets purchased through the PDF must be acquired from Le James (McGill Computer Store) or through the Academic Laptop Program.
- The PDF is funded through central University operating funds, and any purchases made must be returned to the University in the event of staff departure.
- Expense reports for purchases directly from Apple or other vendors should not be submitted to the PDF.
Cell phones are not eligible for reimbursement through the PDF. Please refrain from submitting reimbursement requests for cell phone purchases.
