Mile Gully/Warwick Castle, Jamaica

Pilot Community in Jamaica

The pilot communities in Jamaica consist of the communities of Mile Gully and Warwick Castle. These two rural communities operate as benevolent societies, or community-based organisations, that share the responsibility for decision-making on water resources in the community with higher government levels.

The Mile Gully/Warwick Castle Community regroups approximately 189 households. The area is characterised by low income and employment, as well as low population densities; subsistence farming represents the main source of income. Water supply infrastructure is the leading priority in terms of water resources in the community, to be addressed under the ongoing Rural Water Programme. For more information on this and other aspects of water resources in the area, including the hydrological setting and a hydrostatigraphic map, please see the documents located on the right hand side of the page.
