What is the connection between the reading girl and the collecting woman? At an event tailor-made for lifelong readers and bibliophiles, Prof. Jacqueline Reid-Walsh explored that connection through the life and collections of Sheila Bourke.

Do you remember Pipsqueak and Stanley? The Brownies? The first book in your book collection? The first book in Sheila Bourke's collection was Bouillabaisse for Bibliophiles and her collection grew in depth and diversity from that first volume. Caldecott, Crane, Rackham, Bewick, these institutions of children's literature are all represented in her curated collection of children's books.

The collection can be consulted in the Rare Books Reading room Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Contact Liason Librarianelis.ing [at] mcgill.ca ( Elis Ing )for reference guidance.

The accompanying Exhibition, Books that Pop! was realised by Jennifer Garland, Ann Marie Holland, and Elis Eng.
