The McGill Library Archival Collections Catalogue has switched over to a more user-friendly interface to help users navigate archival descriptions. The fresh look will allow researchers to better visualize the relationships between records in a fonds or collection and move between record descriptions.

The Catalogue now features a horizontal navigation element on the top of record description pages to display the hierarchical arrangement of the fonds.

Other improvements over previous navigation include:

  • Quicker, more responsive scrolling to reveal a fonds arrangement
  • Easier navigation out to descriptions of other records within a fonds
  • Simultaneous display of “Quick search” search results in the sidebar and the fonds hierarchy in the top element
