PhD extension

A graduate student who is no longer registered because of non-compliance with the Time Limitation Policy but who requires access to library resources to complete their thesis can obtain Library borrowing privileges and extend access to library e-resources. The student’s faculty administrator or thesis advisor should send either an email or signed letter, specifying the extension’s end date, to the head librarian at the appropriate branch library. For Humanities and Social Sciences Library, the email or the letter should be sent to hsslloans.library [at] mcgill.ca.

Once the request is sent to the library, the graduate student should complete the form, selecting “PhD extension” from the drop-down menu for the Requested borrowing category. When the form is completed, the student will receive a temporary borrowing account number. They have to contact the branch library (hsslloans.library [at] mcgill.ca for the Humanities and Social Sciences Library) with the number, and we will assist with completing the process of obtaining a borrowing card.

To get their access to library e-resources extended, the student should have an active McGill email address. If their McGill email address has expired, the student’s faculty administrator or thesis advisor should request its reactivation from McGill IT services prior to requesting access to library e-resources.
