The image displays the autofluorescent characteristics of renal tissue that were observed in biobank patient samples during an investigation of Tertiary Lymphoid Structure (TLS) in Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC). We visualize the signal using GeoMx spatial transcriptomics technology.

2nd place - David Firer

This is a fluorescence microscopy image revealing the intricate cell wall sugars of Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans, a chytrid fungus that is leading a global amphibian pandemic. In the image, we can see the body of the parent fungi poised to release a new generation of spores that will seek out amphibian prey.

3rd place - Sophia Jeroncic

The drawing was inspired by the topic of antimicrobial resistance and the threat such bacteria pose to our society, represented by the bacterium's large size relative to the other cells.

Acknowledgements: MIMM 212 course in 2022 for the Gram stain images. Artworks are her own, inspired by MIMM 211 and 324 courses.
