McGill Mining Engineering experience was the first step to define who I wanted to be. I chose Mining Engineering at first because I wanted to travel, loved science and I wanted to work outdoors. By the time you graduate, you will have at least 12 months of real-life, hands-on experience in different aspects of the mining industry. I realized early on how versatile a Mining Engineering degree could be thanks to this. I had the chance to diversify my co-ops by working in consulting, project management, operations, and resource financial investment, all within the mining industry. It helped ascertain that mining was what I wanted to do from my first year in the program, and also made me a great candidate by the time I graduated with knowledge, experience, and soft skills I would have never able to develop on my own. I was also able to take some classes from Polytechnique de Montreal as part of an option in the program, making it a bilingual program. The professors are very supportive and they and your fellow students will be part of your mining family for life.

Since graduating, I have worked in mine software development and mine ventilation, and now I am working in mining technology at Maptek. I am based in Montreal, which I fell in love with when I moved here to do my Bachelor's, and as a Technical Sales Mining Engineer, I travel often to different sites to assess how Maptek’s technology can make mining more efficient, safe, and sustainable. I love the diversity of sites, people, and departments I get to connect with as well as how it has broadened my knowledge and view of the mining industry.

The members of the McGill Mining Engineering community are excellent supportive people that I am thankful for meeting during my time at McGill and beyond.
