Biography: 

Louis-Michel Tougas is a composer and performer based in Montreal, Quebec. He studied jazz drums and social sciences, then completed his undergraduate studies in composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, under the supervision of Michel Gonneville, Nicolas Gilbert and Jimmie LeBlanc. He obtained a Master’s degree from the Stuttgart Musikhochschule, where he studied composition, electronic music and informatics with Marco Stroppa. During his stay in Europe, he collaborated with a number of ensembles (Stuttgart Kammerorchester, Ensemble Ascolta, Ensemble Volte) and participated in various workshops in Germany and France (Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Académie Musica in Strasbourg, etc.). He recently began his doctoral studies at McGill University under the supervision of Philippe Leroux, working on research about musical discourse formation through computer-aided composition based on sound parameters deconstruction and reconstruction.
