Double Majors and Double Degrees

Are you interested in adding a second major or degree to your B.Mus. program? You'll have choices in Music, Arts and Science once you're here.

Who can apply

You can apply to add a second major (music or non-music) to your program of study if:

  • You have completed at least one year of full-time studies in a B.Mus. program here at McGill University.
  • You are in good academic standing (CGPA of 3.00 or higher)

You can apply to add a second degree (music or non-music) to your program of study if:

  • You have completed at least two years of full-time studies in a B.Mus. program here at McGill University
  • You are in good academic standing (CGPA of 3.00 or higher).

How we assess your application

Some programs have limited enrolment. In deciding who we admit, we look at:

  • Your cumulative grade point average (CGPA) from your studies at McGill University.
  • Whether you have completed the prerequisites for the second program to which you are applying.

Length of double major/degree programs

  • Double majors normally take 4 to 5 years. You will generally complete 24 to 36 additional credits.
  • Double degrees normally take 5 to 6 years. You will complete at least 60 additional credits.

Program combinations

Students must complete at least one year of full-time studies at McGill and have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 before requesting a second program to be added.
