Canada ready to make concessions on dairy to secure NAFTA deal

Pascal Thériault, Faculty Lecturer (Economist), Director of Community Relations for the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. McGill University

"Canadian negotiators seemed open to make some concessions on the dairy sector in order to speed up negotiations with the U.S.  Claims have been made that this would help U.S. dairy farmers. As it is now, Canadian milk volumes are about a tenth of U.S. annual production. The increase of U.S. milk on the Canadian market would represent less than 0,5% of America’s annual milk production, while having a significant impact on Canada’s milk production and processing sectors."
