Maxillofacial Oncology

The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery provides a maxillofacial oncology service that is comprehensive, coordinated and evidence based care for our patients diagnosed with cancer of the oral cavity. Outstanding cancer care delivery requires a multi-disciplinary team of health care providers with expertise in the field of oral cancer.  At the MUHC, our team of doctors, nurses, therapists and speciality health care professionals work together to provide comprehensive care to our patients before, during and after their treatments. Specialized oral cancer care in our department and at the MUHC offers our patients the possibility of returning to a full life after their cancer diagnosis. 

Cancer of the oral cavity can be detected early with specialized care from a professional that has experience and expertise in all pathologies of the mouth.  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have extensive training in a broad array of all disease processes that affect the oral cavity and related structures.  After additional subspecialized training, a Maxillofacial Surgeon is able to offer services for the treatment of oral cancers, functional reconstruction and rehabilitation of the oral cavity.
